Emollient

Cetyl Alcohol

INCI Name: Cetyl Alcohol

Common name: Cetyl Alcohol

What it is

A fatty alcohol derived from vegetable sources, typically coconut or palm oil. Despite the name, it is not related to drying or sensitising alcohols (such as ethanol or isopropanol) and has a completely different function and skin profile.

What it does in a formula

Primarily an emollient and emulsion stabiliser. It gives body to creams and lotions, contributes to a smooth, non-greasy texture, and helps keep oil and water phases blended evenly. Also reduces greasiness in formulations that contain heavier oils.

Why Botaneca uses it

Used in emulsion formulations (creams, lotions) to improve texture and stability. A well-established cosmetic ingredient with a strong safety record and good compatibility with sensitive skin.
