Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil
INCI Name: Cocos Nucifera Oil
Common name: Coconut Oil
What it is
An oil pressed from the dried meat of the coconut (Cocos nucifera). It is high in lauric acid, a medium-chain saturated fatty acid. In cold-process soapmaking, coconut oil is saponified (converted to soap) during the lye reaction.
What it does in a formula
In leave-on products: an emollient that softens skin and provides mild occlusive properties. In cold-process soap, it contributes hardness to the bar and produces a rich, dense lather. Its high lauric acid content also contributes cleansing performance.
Why Botaneca uses it
A key ingredient in cold-process bar soap formulations where it is fully saponified. Also used in rinse-off and leave-on body formulations for its emollient properties. Well-suited to bar soap because of its contribution to bar hardness and lather quality.
